Medieval Churches on Romney Marsh
Romney Marsh in south Kent is an ancient place full of history and mystery. An enduring feature of this landscape are the medieval churches many of which will accomodate a larger congregation than the immediate surrounding population.
St Augustine's Church, Brookland
St Augustine's Church in Brookland is renowned for it's separate steeple situated on the ground. There are a few colourful local legends which allegedly explain why the church was built in this manner. The truth probably lies in the fact that due to a high water table the walls could not support the steeple. A visit inside reveals the crazy angles of the walls.
